Bathgate Concert Orchestra ( BCO )
is a voluntary organisation of amateur and professional
musicians based in West Lothian in Scotland. The Orchestra meets every
Friday in Bathgate for rehearsal, fun and sometimes, musical performance.
The Orchestra likes to perform accessible, local concerts, throughout the
region to encourage wider participation and audience development.
The Orchestra enjoyed a membership of 28 full-time members and 21 guest
musicians in the last season. This gave the opportunity to rehearse and
perform a wide selection of popular show music, light classics and even
two very successful celebrations of Handel’s ‘Messiah’. This
programme of concerts also included several Christmas carol services and a
special show for the elderly and disabled.
The membership of the BCO is from a wide spectrum of the whole of West
Lothian and its neighbouring regions and its policy of open access has
attracted a balance of age groups with 12 students and 11 concessionary
members. Members of the Bathgate Concert Orchestra travel from Livingston, Linlithgow,
Mid-Calder, West-Calder, Fauldhouse, as far as Falkirk and
Kincardine. Car sharing and lifts may be arranged to help members with
travelling to rehearse or perform with the BCO.
